General
& Family Dentistry
At Woodbine-Steeles Dental Clinic, we provide
treatment for the entire family from children,
teens, adults and the elderly in a comfortable,
family friendly environment. We offer many aspects
of general dentistry including composite white
fillings (mercury free), treatment of gum disease,
extractions (removal of teeth) and the replacement
of lost teeth with bridges, dentures and implants.
We pride ourselves on meeting or exceeding the
current recommended sterilization techniques for the
protection of you and your family.
We are equipped with digital radiography equipment.
Digital radiography uses significantly less
radiation than the old style x-ray techniques and is
faster and produces no environmental waste products.
Cosmetic
Dentistry including Veneers
Cosmetic dentistry involves taking an artistic
approach to smile design using the latest dental
techniques. The treatments offered can be used to
straighten, lighten, reshape and repair damaged
teeth. A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that
fits over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can
improve the colour, shape and position of your
teeth. They are the treatment of choice used in many
smile makeovers. A veneer can make a chipped tooth
look intact and close small gaps, when orthodontics
(braces) are not suitable.
Bleaching & whitening of teeth
A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful - it can help
you feel better about yourself and make a memorable
impression. In addition to the in-office whitening
we also offer professional home whitening kits, with
custom made trays.
Treatment of periodontal (gum) disease
The word periodontal literally means "around the
tooth." Periodontal disease is a serious
bacterial infection that destroys the attachment fibers and
supporting bone that hold your teeth in your mouth.
Left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to
premature tooth loss. We can treat the different
stages of periodontal disease from the mild form
(gingivitis) to the more advanced stages of the
disease.
Crowns &
Bridges
A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over
the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it
strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.
They are an ideal restoration for teeth that have
been broken or have been weakened by decay or a very
large filling.
Often used when one or more teeth are missing, a
bridge consists of a replacement tooth that is
attached to crowns on the adjacent teeth. The
replacement tooth is shaped to fit the contours of
its adjacent teeth, and the bridge is cemented
permanently to the adjacent remaining teeth.
Dentures
& Denture Repair
There are two types of dentures: partial and full
dentures. Both types are made in a dental lab, based
on a mold (or an impression) of your mouth.
A partial denture is also called a "removable
partial denture" or a "partial." It is made up of
one or more false teeth, and held in place by clasps
that fit onto nearby teeth. You can take the partial
denture out yourself, for cleaning and at night. A
partial denture may be used when nearby teeth are
not strong enough to hold a bridge, or when more
than just a few teeth are missing.
A full denture is also called a "complete denture"
or "false teeth." It can be used when all your
natural teeth are missing. Remember, you need to
care for a denture as carefully as you would look
after your natural teeth. Repairs restore a
fractured or damaged denture close to its original
condition. In some cases we can provide denture
repair procedures on a same day basis.
Invisalign-straightening of teeth (orthodontics)
with clear aligners
Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are
custom-molded to fit you. The virtually invisible
aligners gradually reposition your teeth into a
smile you'll be proud of. There are no metal wires
or bands to irritate your mouth, and best of all,
most people won't notice you're in treatment
Dental
Implants
Dental Implants are strong, comfortable, permanent
and an extremely realistic way of replacing missing
teeth. A dental implant is a titanium metal rod,
which is surgically placed into the jawbone and used
to support one or more false teeth. At Woodbine-Steeles
Dental Clinic we use the latest techniques making
the treatment totally pain free and giving you a
natural looking smile.
White
Fillings
After decay is removed from a tooth, something must
be placed in that space to give strength back to the
tooth. Fillings are the most common restorative
procedure. White fillings are an alternative to
silver (amalgam) fillings. White fillings are made
of a strong composite resin that is matched to the
surrounding tooth colour. In the past, white
fillings were placed only on front teeth, but
recently a stronger more durable material has been
developed that can withstand the chewing pressure of
back teeth.
Nitrous
Oxide Gas
Nitrous oxide is a popular anaesthetic agent used by
dentists. Its safety has been well established; it
is effective, and the anaesthetic effect wears off
quickly so there is no extended recovery time. It
can be used for both children and adults.
Nitrous oxide has a very calming, comforting effect,
even though the patient remains in control. Some
dental experts have called it the "ideal anaesthetic"
because it takes effect quickly (in less than 5
minutes) and because there is a very rapid recovery
time (about 5 to 10 minutes. Nitrous oxide is mixed
with oxygen so that you will have an ample supply of
oxygen at the same time.
Intraoral camera to view your oral health
We strive to provide our patients with the highest
quality and the most advanced dental care. With this
in mind, we have a piece of dental equipment to help
you better understand your dental health. It is an
intraoral camera. It is a tiny video camera that
looks like a pen. A sterilized small probe shaped
camera is moved around the inside of your mouth.
This will provide you with a tooth-by-tooth video
exam of your teeth so you can see your teeth
enlarged in living colour on our computer screen.
